Operator of Machines

CPME is accredited to train the following construction operators: Tipper Trucks, Dozers, ADT, RDT, Roller, TLB, Tractor, Low Bed, Excavator, Water Truck, Grader, FEL, and Truck Mounted Crane.
The Operation of machines training programmes have been developed in accordance with the Skills Development Act, against a South African Qualification Authority (SAQA) registered unit standard.

Only a facilitator who has been properly trained, and is competent in the presentation of these courses, with regards operation of the machine, content and methodology should present this training. CPME can provide facilitators for the Operation of Machines Training.

Who is the training programme for?

The operations of construction machines various training programmes have been designed for both novice and experienced drivers who may be expected to operate a construction machine while performing their daily duties on site.

It also makes good business sense that anyone who is expected to supervise employees related to these activities should know what the correct methods and procedures are so that they are competent to identify good or bad practices during their supervision day / shift.

THE LEARNERS ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES

During the training, the learner is expected to:

  • Take part in the activities
  • Ask questions
  • Enter discussions that have meaning to the topic
  • Attend the theory lesson/s
  • Perform both an oral and written assessment
  • Provide a valid driver’s license, green ID book or passport for foreigners
  • Provide previous COC (in the case of re-certifications)

The training is meant to enable the learner to master the skills, and this can only be done by the learner making the effort to learn.  The facilitator’s purpose is to guide and assist the learners on the path to competency.

While the training is not necessarily a part of the productive workplace, learners will be expected to behave in a manner required in the workplace e.g. wearing of personal protective equipment (PPE) where necessary.
